Today, we sat down with Bobby Mares to chat about all things tattoos.
RJ: Bobby, we are eager to know more about you, tell us all about yourself!
Bobby: I’m Bobby Mares, I love to be creative through film and photography and I’ve been making YouTube videos and doing social media for over 10 years!
RJ: How old were you when you got your first tattoo & what inspired you to get tattooed?
Bobby: I was 19 years old when I got my first tattoo! I love art and I saw my favorite band members in Blink-182 have cool tattoos so I was naturally influenced. I went in to get one star on my shoulder and the tattoo artist asked, “would you rather have a galaxy?” and I said YES. First tattoo, was a quarter sleeve piece that I sat for 3 hours on, haha.
RJ: Did you always had the intention to get as many tattoos as you have or did it gradually become an obsession?
Bobby: I initially wanted to get a few super random small ones on one arm, but then I fell in love with it and one arm filled up and then made the decision to jump to the other arm.
RJ: How do you feel your tattoos have influenced your personal style or identity?
Bobby: I feel like my tattoos can give others a good idea of my style and what I’m into, as a lot of my tattoos show a glimpse of my personality and values. I love that I can wear it as art that can be seen at all times.
RJ: Do you have a favorite tattoo among the ones you have? If so, why is it your favorite?
Bobby: I have a few tattoos in my parents handwriting or friends handwriting - I feel like those are always so cool to know that’s someone you care about’s penmanship is on you.

RJ: Did you ever get tattooed spontaneously? And if so, what is the story behind it?
Bobby: I got a pretty spontaneous tattoo while visiting Austin, TX - randomly decided to get a space rocket on my foot! Little did I know the top of the foot hurts insanely bad and I had to sit through that one and walk out with a weird foam flipflop so I wouldn’t touch the new ink. It was still fun, haha.
RJ: Do you have a go-to tattoo artist that you go to?
Bobby: I’ve gone to Vince @thatboyvince in downtown LA for years - he’s the best at what he does!
RJ: Do you have any band lyrics or references tattooed?
Bobby: I met Travis Barker from my favorite band Blink-182 and he signed a “182” on my arm while at a tattoo convention that he throws and I went a few feet over and got the 182 tattoo’d on me right there. I think that’s dope.
